This is the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge

While flagships smartphones didn't make the cut during CES 2016, the attention is now moved towards MWC 2015 as both Samsung and LG are expected to tank it out with their new refreshed flagships for 2016. There has been talks about the Galaxy S7 and LG G5 over the holiday season but those were just rumors and reports.

If you were hoping that Samsung will be dishing out something totally new this year, you're out of luck. Prolific phone leaker, Evan Blass is confirming that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will retain most of the design aspects of last year's Galaxy S6. The overall metal and glass build is retained but this time around, Samsung is re-introducing the microSD card slot and IP67 certification like on the Galaxy S5 (according to the source).

Expect to see the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge debut officially during MWC 2016 in Barcelona and the device will be rolling out globally in early March.

BlackBerry's second android smartphone codenamed Vienna will come in 4 colors


Looks like another BlackBerry phone powered by Android is brewing. The company just started selling the BlackBerry Priv in the US last weekend and according to a credible leak from Crackberry, the Canadian manufacturer is heading from Venice to Vienna for their next android powered smartphone that is supposedly also about privacy and privilege.

Just like the new BlackBerry Priv, the upcoming BlackBerry Vienna (codename) will also feature a physical keyboard but in a more classical form factor. Reminiscing of the PDA days with physical qwerty keyboards, the Vienna opts for a persistent physical keyboard compared to a slide-out type on the Priv.

Besides the slight different in form factor, these renders also show that the Vienna will come in a few color options unlike the Priv which is only available in Black. One interesting to note is that since the power and volume rockers are place nearly at the top, expect the device to be similarly sized compared to the Priv is BlackBerry references the button layout so expect it to have something like at 4.7-5" display.

Microsoft accidentally acknowledges the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL

Microsoft will be holding a press launch event next Tuesday with the #Windows10Devices themes and while the Surface Pro 4 and Microsoft Band 2 is expected to be made official, this event will also be the platform for Microsoft to officially show off the features of Windows 10 Mobile.

What better way to show off the new Windows 10 made for smartphones? Right, announcing a pair of new smartphones. Its no secret that Microsoft is preparing to launch flagship devices running Windows 10 Mobile since there has been countless leaks about the device since earlier this year.

Today we're in luck because Microsoft has just somewhat confirmed two new Windows 10 ready devices and they are indeed the Lumia 950 XL and Lumia 950. While the actual price is not listed, there are some simple specs about the device like the 20MP camera and 5.7" and 5.2" QHD displays.

Just remember, Microsoft is planning an October 6 event early next week, so stay tuned for the official announcement.

First live images of LG's 2015 Nexus phone emerges


While Huawei is widely expected to be making this year's Nexus device, reports in the past few weeks have hinted that LG will also be making a Nexus device this year making it a duo of Nexus phones for the very first time. Huawei's Nexus phone is expected to be as big as their P8 Max with a 5.7-6" display like the outgoing Nexus phone and that leaves LG to produce a compact Nexus phone (5-5.2" display) made for the everyday user.

Last week we saw 3D renders of both the Huawei and LG Nexus phone and this week we have the first live image of the upcoming Nexus phone. As much as initial reports suggest, LG's 2015 Nexus is not merely just an upgrade to the age old Nexus 5, it'll come with an improved design alongside the up-to-date hardware configuration.

From this image we can clearly see that there's a lot going on the back of the device with the slightly protruding camera module being accompanied by a dual LED flash array and the phase detection auto focus system. Moving down, we can see a round orb which is most likely the embedded fingerprint scanner and moving toward the center is the nexus logo in black and white.

Google is expected to unveil both the Huawei and LG Nexus phones alongside the launch of Android M in September/October so stay tuned for more on that.

Take a closer look at Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+


It's no secret that Samsung is pushing the launch of the Galaxy Note 5 forward just to get a headstart at Apple's forthcoming iPhone 6S which will be arriving in September. While we have seen quite a lot about the Galaxy Note 5, these new images paint a full picture as to how the device stacks up against the iPhone 6 Plus.

As expected the Galaxy Note 5 will feature a similar design scheme like on the Galaxy S6 announced this year and it's curvier companion, the Galaxy S6 edge+ is basically just a enlarged Galaxy S6 edge. Both devices will come with 5.7" QHD AMOLED display and is powered by Samsung's new octa core Exynos processor which is just as powerful as the Snapdragon 810 CPU from qualcomm.

But beyond the improved hardware, these two devices look alike from the metal frame to the glass build all around, Samsung is replicating the design of the Galaxy S6. These images also shows the new push-lock S Pen on the Galaxy Note 5 and if you're expecting to see a microSD card or removable battery on either these devices, you will be disappointed.

There is also an image below comparing the Galaxy S6 Edge+ with the iPhone 6 Plus and while the former has a 5.7" display, it still looks more compact than the iPhone 6 Plus which has a slightly smaller 5.5" display. Besides these newfound images of Samsung's upcoming flagship devices, there's also a new thread on reddit which confirms a lot of information about both the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+.

Again, Samsung will be unveiling both these devices during a special Unpacked event this Thursday (August 13) and the only thing that we're yet to know is the price and the software features. The Galaxy Note 5 is expected to arrive in Malaysia by September 5 with a price of RM 2,999 for the base 32GB model.

Samsung Rep came to my retail location and I had a brief time with the two upcoming Samsung devices.
Some quick takeaways:
Overall shape of the Note 5 (to me) felt better in hand. The tapered back really "shrunk" the size down once in hand.
Super Amoled display looked great, especially on the curved screen of the S 6 Edge +.
Note 5 RAM (I know this is a hot topic with S6 users right now) was about at about 50% available after booting up the phone (according to smart manager).
I know it's been reported already, and some people who saw the press renders were hoping they saw an SD slot, but no. No external SD slots on either device.
Note users hoping we would see double the storage on base model, will be saddened to hear that it's 32gb at the base model. :(
6 Edge + has Apps Edge (like the Note Edge!). Swipe in once from the right and Apps Edge comes up, Swipe in again and it switches to people edge.
Double Click the home button for camera works on both.
Comparing it to my iPhone 6+ the Note 5 was slightly thicker, but it was both shorter in height and narrower in width and featured much better weight distribution. (iPhone 6+ feels awkwardly top heavy in comparison).
Note 5 S-Pen does in-fact use a push to pop mechanism.
Initially the cameras looked identical, however Note 5 was slightly brighter (probably negligible, but just passing along what I saw).
The devices I used were unbranded running on non-final software.
If I had to make a choice between the two on the spot, it would probably be the Note 5 because of how nice it felt in hand. It's not easy to make a HUGE phone not so huge in your hands. The 6 Edge+ display is drool worthy, but the hard edges digging into my palms wasn't my thing.

Here's a first look at the new retail boxes for Intel's Skylake desktop CPUs


Now that Windows 10 has officially hit the market, the next big launch in the PC market is Intel's new 6th generation core processors codenamed Skylake. There has been ongoing reports that Intel will be announcing the highly anticipated processors during a keynote at Gamescon later this week. But whether the ends up being the case or not, we'll just have to wait till the day itself to confirm these claims.

But in the mean time, the new boxes for Intel's new Skylake desktop CPUs has been leaked. Specifically, the i7-6700K and i5 6600K which is the top of the line SKU in terms of performance. The back of the box looks like a normal Intel processor box but the front has a new set of graphics that looks like a vortex of light.

These boxes also confirm that the new unlocked Skylake processors will come with the new Intel HD Graphics 530 and as usual, the i7 has a hyper-threaded quad core processor and the i5 just has a quad core processor. Both devices are based off the LGA 1151 socket and supports DDR4 memory.
